Driving through Hemel Hempstead towards Ivinghoe you may just get a few glimpses through the trees of this windmill in the distance, and if you follow the road you will eventually find the entrance and a small car park. Managed by the National Trust this windmill sits in a large open field and is considered one of the oldest mills in Britain dating back beyond 1693. In 1963 the Pitstone Windmill Restoration Committee repaired the mill after severe weather damaged the mill beyond repair in 1902.

The fields around the windmill are about to start their yearly cycle of grain to flour, there is something about open spaces which I find amazing, the solitude, the smell of the air...
